December 12 & 19, 2009 Santa at the Caboose - the jolly ol' man will take your holiday wishes and pose for pictures in side the old N&W caboose at the Rocky Mount train station.
   
September 20, 2009 Two Historic Roads - Where is the Wilderness Road? 3 p.m. American Legion Bldg., Tanyard Road, Rocky Mount. Mary B. Kegley, author/historian, answers the question. Free. Refreshments. Everyone welcome.
   
September 26, 2009 Pancakes & History at Applebee's Rocky Mount. 7-10 a.m. Steaming pancakes, sausage, bacon, juice, coffee - plus a helping of local history served up by Historical Society volunteers. $5 per plate. Tickets available at the History Museum 10-2 or buy 'em at the door.
   
September 19, 2009 Genealogy Workshop - Search for your Revolutionary War ancestors. Meet at the History Museum, 460 S. Main Street, at 10 a.m. Head to Franklin County Circuit Clerk's Office for a special Saturday opening, thanks to Clerk Teresa Brown. In cooperation with Virginia's Old Carolina Road Chapter Daughters of American Revolution. Bring your own notepad. Pencils only. Free, minimal charge for any photocopies.
   
September 2, 2009 Tickets go on sale for "Ghosts & More" (event dates Saturdays, Oct. 17 & 24). Contact the History Museum 540-483-1890. $13 per seat. See where the long dead have recently been seen, heard, felt and smelled. Some 65 actors and interpreters tell the true tales. Souvenir tour booklets available with the scripts and "more" following the tour. Advance ticket purchase recommended. Multiple bus departures per night.
   
November 15, 2009 Annual offsite meeting of the Historical Society at Booker T. Washington National Monument. Speaker to be announced. Program begins at 2 p.m. Come early to visit the park. Refreshments.
   
November 7, 2009 Eastern Gateway to The Crooked Road season-ending event. Music, Cars, More - starts at 10 a.m. at the old N&W train station, Franklin Street, Rocky Mount. Heritage Music, vintage automobiles. Convoy out The Crooked Road (VA 40 West) approximately noon where the music continues at Sheriff Shively's Storehouse, Crossroads. It's all free - food and beverage available for purchase at Shively's. Bring your lawn chair and acoustic instrument if you'd like to jam at Shively's Storehouse. Community History project hosted by Lane Rakes and Sue Justice Rakes.

Oct.ober 17 & 24, 2009 'Ghosts & More' - Rocky Mount spirits! See 'em and hear their stories. Ride a vintage bus through town to visit spots where ghosts have been sighted and murderous activity has taken place. All our stories are true - or at least as we heard 'em. More than 65 actors/interpreters put on the show. History is fun! Come and see. Advance ticket purchase recommended. $13 per seat.
